The 2006 Handbook of Discussion Topics has now been published.  It is entitled TOWARDS A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING.

It has long been an aim of NASO to help its members to achieve a deeper understanding of the world around them through learning supported by discussion groups.  This method is an effective means of helping the motivated 'learner' to evaluate all that he or she takes from daily encounters and responses.  In this present book, Towards a Deeper Understanding, we have set out to present a holistic picture of knowledge, not confining ourselves only to the traditional academic categories, but also appreciating the many bits and pieces of experience that social living affords.

We have produced a wide variety of studies.  Some suggest activities and group visits. Some tap into common experiences.  Extended studies give depth to subjects.  All come with questions which focus on the important issues.  Deeper understanding can come through the effort of maintaining a well-informed mind, open to a multiplicity of viewpoints.

Example Topics from the 2006 Handbook are:

Body Image, Concerns of age, Laughter and tears, The Suez episode, Creative writing techniques, Children at play, The voice of Paul Robeson, The phenomenon of fantasy fiction, Simple survival, Revolution in poetry, Understanding paintings, What has happened to our colonies, Universities, Dictionary Johnson and his biographer, and many others.
